Community Garden (Ongoing)

The objective of the Neighboring Initiative is to engage marginalized residents and families as volunteer  leaders, pilot innovative volunteer programs and promote volunteering as a means for residents to connect to economic recovery opportunities. Through training and social networking, the program promotes  community-driven change. This years projects center on the environment, economic and community development, education, health and wellness. One of the central projects will include a community  garden that will benefit homeless and area residents in the downtown community.

Corporate Month of Service: (September)

September kicks off Volunteer Mobile's Fourth Annual Corporate Month of Service, in which area businesses are encouraged to participate in hands-on service projects.  Each September, Volunteer Mobile and service organizations across the county will engage citizens in a variety of community-focused volunteer projects.  Volunteer projects may include, but are not limited to: painting, landscaping, carpentry or garden projects. Partners will be recognized on all media publicity, plaques and on-site signage.

Heart of Gold (April)

Each year during National Volunteer Week, Volunteer Mobile coordinates a luncheon to honor local citizens for their exemplary contribution to the community. Nominees are selected in the following volunteer categories: Education, Health and Welfare, Culture and Arts, Civic Betterment and Outstanding Youth and Adult and Youth Groups.  Sponsors and volunteer nominations are welcome!

Family Volunteer Day- (November)

Volunteer Mobile joins forces with area agencies to create an opportunity for local families to volunteer their time and resources to our non-profit partners. Past projects have included food drives and refurbishing of area schools.

MLK Day of Service (January)

Volunteer Mobile celebrates Martin Luther King Junior's legacy of service to others by calling for volunteers to make this holiday a day on, not a day off. We are inviting you to consider your day "off" as a day "on" as we kick off a year-long campaign encouraging community service.

Volunteer Leader Training (ongoing)

Through individual and/or customized training workshops, Volunteer Mobile helps strengthen programs that engage volunteers to meet critical community needs. Through both national and regional  partnerships, we provide training and hands-on courses for agencies and businesses looking to motivate volunteers.  Training is available for agencies looking to start new volunteer programs or grow existing volunteer  programs.

Community Wide Field Day: (March)

In response to the Surgeon General's Office prompting communities to become more fit, Volunteer Mobile and the Southwest Alabama Medical Reserve Corps have initiated a Community-Wide Field day. The public is invited to come out and cheer on their favorite team. Corporate and community organizations will take part in a variety of outdoor activities, ranging from volleyball, paint ball and horse shoes to tug of war, three-legged races, mental fitness games and basketball.
